I have been painting with Kerri, a young woman I work with/for. She has completed quite a few paintings of her own, with my help. For a change, I thought it would be fun to work on a painting together. Our process is – she paints, (mostly straight, bold strokes) and then I paint, (more determined, articulate marks). This is one of two paintings we are working on together. I think it still has a way to go.

It is a portrait of Kerri.

This is a commissioned portrait of Olly, a sweet-heart three year old boy. It is a gift from the grandmother to the parents.

I have just added a link to the top of my blog. This one takes you to ‘Cumberland Lifers’, a life-drawing group I belong with. Thursday evenings we get together and ‘do our scales’, so to speak. Practice, practice, practice – this drawing-from-life training is the best way to stay honed and improve as a visual artist.

This should look good on my CV. I have been working on some illustrations for a book by Lock Mawhinney. The book recounts the beginnings of L’Arche in the Comox Valley. I have done four illustrations for inside the book and an illustration for the front and back cover. This is what it may look like once published. This image shows the front and back cover - as if the book is lying open.

I recently finished this portrait of my daughter-in-law, Ashley and her brother Jackson. This was for their mother, Gayle. It was an unexpected surprise for her. I was very pleased with her response.

At this time I am painting one, last wall at Runge’s Deli; their back entrance-way. It will probably take a month.

Worthy of Star Portraits

Ever since seeing the television show “Star Portraits” I have wanted to be on it as an artist. I really think that I could have a chance at having my painting chosen by the star. Unfortunately, as the show runs out of Ontario, and I live in BC, I doubt it will happen. I thought I would mention it in this post anyway, just in case one of the show’s producers while surfing the net, comes upon my blog.

This painting is a portrait I have recently finished. Jeannie is a lively, bright, kind and inquisitive young woman. I hope I have portrayed some of those qualities in my painting of her.
